Pet clean-up

PET CLEAN-UP

Cleaning up after your pet is a tough job but someone has to do it, right? Here are two suggestions to make things a little easier.

Fur Balls - To cut down on your cat spitting up fur balls onto your floor or carpet, try feeding him/her sardines in oil once a month. They say it helps smooth the passageways, allowing the hair a speedy exit, thus preventing the fur balls from forming.

Personal Note: I found that by putting vaseline on our cats front paws so they have to lick it off works wonders. It was recommended to me by a vet that we had many years ago.

Re: Pet clean-up

We have never had problems with fur balls. Our cat we had for 12 years had long hair too.

Our previous cat DC had problems with hairballs you wouldn't always see it when he threw up. Usually as long as we kept him on the Iams hairball cat food or the Science diet hairball cat food it seemed mostly to keep it in check. He didn't have long hair but he had pretty thick hair. He was always shedding everywhere. Keeping him brushed helped too.

Thankfully haven't had hairball issues with the two kittens yet. Luckily they are fine with the cheaper food because they certainly go through it.

Re: Pet clean-up

Diet and constant brushing of a cat's coat certainly helps in keeping furballs at bay. DC had short hair but wouldn't allow use to brush him. Simon has short thick hair and will not allow us to brush him either. But we find that the Iams canned food seems to help with the furballs. I'm not sure what dry food we are using, I think it is Iams for older cats.

Re: Pet clean-up

Our vet told us most cats should not be on wet food. It leads to obesity. Our cats have always gotten kirkland brand catfoot which is Costcos brand of catfood. It actually rates really high for cat food.

That's so funny that my DC sounded like your DC. He really didn't like to be brushed either. I could only to a little bit and we fed him the dry Iams.

Re: Pet clean-up

lol Nini. DC was a domestic short hair.

We had to put Amanda down almost a month ago. But we have decided to wait until spring to get another cat since we don't want Simon to be on his own for very long. We plan to get a kitten from the vet when we are ready. This way we know that if there are any problems the vet knows from the start what we are dealing with.

Your vet keeps adoptable pets?

Re: Pet clean-up

Our vet usually knows who has cats that has had kittens. I know that they help out different agencies that look after strays, surrenders(sp), etc.
