Re: Crib to Toddler Bed Transition
You know, my mom still always says and she did when I was growing up, noone cares when a child goes to kindergarten, what age they potty trained, gave up a bottle, gave up a pacifier, etc. It's all (usually) done by the time they are 6 and noone cares. (or shouldn't!)

Re: Crib to Toddler Bed Transition
That's exactly it Tabitha!!! That's what I keep telling mil... who cares when they transition up to the next milestone... they will each get there at their own pace. And why stress us parents out in the meantime... might as well just go with the flow and stay positive!
But she turns around and says I'm too lax... grrr... I can't please her. She feels differently about things than me. She'd rather teach, teach, teach... and move them through phases fast then at their own pace. That's probably what frustrates me the most about her! I used to get annoyed and she could see it... now I just laugh it off... and I know that annoys her more!!! LMAO

Re: Crib to Toddler Bed Transition
I would have kept mine in a crib as long as they were safe, happy and I didn't need the crib.
When I was a young, first time mommy, I used to feel the pressure of the milestone "game" - my kid beat your kid at doing that, etc. But with maturity and experience, you realize that kids do things when they're ready, and unless there's truly a problem, then they're best left on their own. I don't see how sleeping in a crib is even a huge milestone, it's not hurting him or stunting his growth. I think laughing off your MILs comments are a good way to handle things.

Re: Crib to Toddler Bed Transition
I used to get these newsletters (well I stilldo, I just don't read them) from the peds office. It was for 0-3 months and up... even up to Emma's age they still keep coming. What is your child doing? What 'should' they be ble to do? When to be concerned... etc I used to read them with a fine tooth comb and try to work with them on the skills they didn't have but 'should'. Yeah, I don't even read them now lol.

Re: Crib to Toddler Bed Transition
So... after months of wondering when to start Tyler's transition from crib to toddler bed, lo and behold he did it himself!!!
We've had a toddler bed set up in his room for a while now (we moved Nathan from his toddler bed to a twin and figured instead of packing it away for just a few months, why not put it in Tyler's room and wait until the right moment). He's 2yrs, 8mnts and up until this point has always slept in his crib. He LOVES his crib!!! Well tonight I was getting him ready for bed, he was laying on the toddler bed while I changed his pull-up and got his pj's on, then as usual got up and put him in the crib. As soon as I layed him down in the crib, he started to cry and reached up for me. So I picked him up, he wiggled out of my arms, got down to the ground, and ran over to his toddler bed and jumped back in. He made it VERY clear he wanted to sleep there. So, I covered him up, gave him a kiss, and left the room. I heard a few noises and movements for the next 20 mins or so, and then eventually quiet, went up and checked on him and he was sound asleep. The little monkey is sleeping in his toddler bed! I have no idea what the rest of the night or morning will bring but it appears Tyler has decided when the transition should take place! lol Not sure what's going to happen tomorrow... I guess I will follow Tyler's lead on this one. ![]() Here's a photo of Tyler sawing logs in his "new bed":

Re: Crib to Toddler Bed Transition
Thanks Jacki, it's actually a "jungle" mural on his wall. Lots of different animals. Someone painted it... it was there when we moved in.
Nathan's room has an "underwater" mural on his wall.
